--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This pattern was created by contemporary artist Kristen Stein in honor of Ruth Bader Ginsburg (1933-2020) who served as a Supreme Court Justice from 1993 until her death on September 18, 2020.  Please wear it in remembrance of this incredible woman who lived an incredible life.   The collar is easy to replicate using basic stitches.  It can easily be created in different sizes as desired.  The pattern is suitable for a beginner crocheter with basic crochet skills.

--------------

Super-fine (#1)

As shown: Approximately 125 yards of Loops & Threads Woolike Simili-Laine in White. Each skein is 678 yards (620m) / 3.5 oz (100g).

Crochet Hook 4.5mm or size needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge:

(Worked Flat) :18dc stitches and 10 rows = 4” (10cm)

Designer Note: The collar will be worked “in the round” using 11 crocheted rounds.  You will start with a ring that fits comfortably around the head. Begin by loosely chain stitching your foundation ring.  Use as many chain stitches as you need to comfortably pass the ring around the widest part of your head.  For the sample shown in the picture, I used a foundation chain consisting of 104 stitches. You may need to add more stitches in order to create a more comfortable collar.

Round 1: Loosely Ch104 (or as many chain stitches to create a ring that comfortably fits over your head). Slip stitch in the first chain stitch to create your foundation ring.

Rd 2: ch3(acts as 1st dc); dc in each chain stitch of your foundation ring. Slip stitch in top of starting ch-3 to end the round.

Rd 3: ch2 (acts as first hdc); hdc in each dc stitch around the ring. Slip stitch in top of starting ch-2 to end the round.

Rd 4: sc in every hdc around the entire ring. Slip stitch in starting sc to end the round.

Rd 5: sc in opening stitch; *ch6; skip 1sc; sc in next sc; repeat from * around the entire ring to create a round of all ch-6 spaces. Slip stitch in opening sc to end the round.

Rd 6: Slip stitch in 1st ch-6 space; ch1; sc in same ch-6 space; *ch6; sc in next ch-6 space; repeat from * around the entire ring to create another round of all ch-6 spaces. Slip stitch in starting sc to end the round.

Rds 7-10: Repeat Round 6 four more times. (or to your desired collar width before proceeding to final round.)

Rd 11 (Final Round): (sc, hdc, dc, ch6, dc, hdc, sc) in every ch-6 space around entire collar.

Fasten off. Weave in ends.  Your Ginsburg Legacy Collar is complete. Block the collar as needed per your yarn's specifications.
