Chain ring vs. magic circle for creating starting ring for crochet in the round

 In this video, I show two alternative ways to create a starting ring for crocheting in the round.  The magic circle creates a tight ring without a noticeable center.  The chain ring leaves a small opening in the center.  I often use the chain ring in my lace designs, but my daughter uses the magic loop/circle a lot when creating her amigurumi designs.  Which do you use and why?
